Chemung County Undersheriff

William A. Schrom

Undersheriff Schrom began his career with the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office in March of 1990 as a Road Patrol Deputy.  While assigned to the Road Patrol he also served on the department’s Special Services Unit for two years.  In 1994, he was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) where he served in the capacity of Investigator until 2005.  In 2001, Undersheriff Schrom was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and remained assigned to CID.  During his assignment to CID Undersheriff Schrom served as one of the department’s Crisis Negotiators and also one of the department’s Computerized Voice Stress Analyzer Operators.  Schrom received extensive training while assigned to CID, to include interview and interrogation, death investigations and evidence collection.  He has attended the Colonel Henry F. Williams Homicide Seminar, the Bloodstain Evidence Institute and graduated from the FBI National Academy, 1996 (Session 186).  He holds an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and graduated from the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy, 1989 (session 6).  Schrom also served as a past President of the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association.  In 2006 he was appointed to his current position of Undersheriff.  When he’s not working, Undersheriff Schrom enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters.  He also enjoys hunting, fishing and SCUBA diving.
